4x4 Making Places takes place over four consecutive weeks in March. It is a unique event that brings together professionals across the build environment. Designers, urbanistis, academics, developers, engineers, commentators, members of the public, artists, administrators, politicians and students from across the region, all attend for a series of presentations and debate.

4x4 is open to everyone and is free to attend... with thanks to all of the lovely sponsors above!

Each week features four speakers followed by debate.

This year 4x4 looks to the future, and asks what will the world of localism and the Big society look like?

The financial crisis means there will be new drivers for change and the new political agendas will shift power to the individual and the community.

What does this mean for those involved in place making and how can we balance the need for fast intervention whilst ensuring that longer term strategies to meet the long term environmental challenge in planning are delivered?
